Free-flowing solids are thoroughly mixed with liquid components in SOLIDMIX mixers for solids, the liquid components being applied to the surfaces of the excipients.
Typical duties include the application of active ingredients to solids, the adjustment of specific product properties or the attachment of functional groups to pharmaceutical products.
The high degree of homogeneity is confirmed by pilot-scale testing and guaranteed by SOLIDMIX for your commercial-scale production unit.
Vertical mixers for solids blend the product gently at low shaft speeds. The EKATO VSM or the EKATO VPM ensure thorough blending and a high degree of homogeneity.
Free-flowing products often go through a paste-like phase when they are wetted. This phase cannot be handled by a conventional bulk solids mixer. The paste-like product adheres to the wall of the vessel and the agitator, resulting in the product rotating in bulk with no further mixing taking place. The results are poor homogeneity and in many cases the formation of agglomerates. When acted upon by the patented EKATO ISOPAS agitator system in the EKATO VPM these agglomerates are broken up again completely.
The advantage of the EKATO ISOPAS agitator system for applications of this type is that it is open at the top, enabling specially designed baffles to be used. These put a brake on the product rotating in bulk, thus ensuring optimized and thorough mixing in every phase.
Another advantage of the open design is that a large free surface is exposed for adding liquid without directly wetting the agitator and the wall of the vessel. In very difficult cases it is possible to mount a chopper in the cover of the mixer. The conical bottom of the unit makes product discharge as complete as possible.
