Chemical reactions

In reactions between free-flowing solid products and gases the solid material must be thoroughly agitated in order to allow contact between the two phases. The reactant gas can be admitted through nozzles in order to flow through it while the agitator continually renews the active surfaces.

Typical applications include the steam treatment of food products or synthetic polymers, hydrogenation reactions or the stripping of solvent from chemicals.

EKATO VSM vertical mixers for solids are comparable in operation with agitated reactors and are therefore ideal units for gas-solid reactions. Defined reaction conditions can be maintained by heating or cooling the vessel through an outer jacket and by constructing it to work under pressure or vacuum.

The unit is equipped with valves suitable for the process conditions to ensure safe operation in a closed space, even with hazardous substances.
