Self Aspirating Gassing

Requirements:

The reaction of pure gas demands:

  • Total consumption of the gas
  • High productivity
  • A safe enclosure of the gas and the reactional products

The EKATO solution:
High productivity in a relatively simple reactor due to the EKATO combined gassing system with the EKATO GASJET - a self aspiring gassing turbine - and the EKATO PHASEJET for the primary dispersion of the gas feed.

Self aspirating gassing
Whenever pure, toxic or potentially explosive gases are used in a reaction, there is a great interest in its being consumed completely so as to avoid the expense of recovering gas from the exhaust stream. In a self-aspirating gassing system the impeller has two functions:

  • recirculating the unreacted gas from the freeboard space back into the liquid
  • dispersion of the sparged gas (consumed stoichiometrically) and the recirculated gas.

The centrifugal effects of the impeller blade tip speed reduces the pressure inside the shaft to a level where gas from the freeboard space of the vessel is aspirated through holes in the top of the shaft and is reintroduced into the liquid through the impeller.
