At higher loads on the mechanical seal, when seal liquids having a low vaporizing temperature are used, or at high operating temperatures there is a danger that the seal rings overheat despite air cooling to the seal and its supply system. In such cases the storage vessel VG or the pressure compensator VGD are cooled by means of a cooling water jacket.
With increasing shaft size the friction heat generated in the mechanical seal increases disproportionally. That means, in the case of big shaft diameters cooling of the seal liquid alone is no longer sufficient. In such cases of high heat loads the seal is therefore designed with a water cooled housing.
At working temperatures of 250° C up to 400° C an additional heat trap can be added.
The heat trap is fitted between mounting flange and the flange of the shaft seal. The task of the heat trap is to thermally separate the mechanical seal from vessel and mounting flange and thereby to make higher vessel temperatures allowable to the shaft seal.
Technical Data
Material: Stainless steel
Cooling water flow rates for cooling water jacket on storage vessel:
Shaft diameter from 40 to 100 mm Qmin > 50 l/h
above 100 mm Qmin > 70 l/h
Cooling water flow rates for cooling jacket on seal housing:
for heat trap: Qmin (l/h) = (1 to 2.5) x shaft diameter (mm)
Quality
All ESD mechanical seals and accessories are suitable for applications in hazardous areas and are TÜV certified in accordance with ATEX standard 94/9/EC.
